foaf
by rullzer on Jan.26, 2010, under Daily news, Linux
Some time ago I learned about the foaf-project, I did like the project back then but I never took the time to write my own foaf.rdf. Well now it is created. Very basic but I hope it will be extended soon.
Since my recent social network activity the step to foaf was, in my eyes, also a logical one. But it does seem that a lot more people have facebook than foaf….
One of the nice things about foaf, if you are interested in semantic web stuff, is that it is in constant development there are discussions on the mailing list about how to structure the data etc or why things should change. This makes it a very dynamic project.
As you can see I do not yet have any foaf:knows elements in my foaf.rdf but lets hope that soon will change so a semantic network can span around me.
Social Networking
by rullzer on Jan.23, 2010, under Daily news, Linux, Site
After having resisted for a long time last week I finally created a facebook account. I still prefer e-mail or instant messages (jabber!) but I have to admit it is a nice way to get in touch with a lot of people and to follow activity.
So now that I have sold my soul I decided to create an extra box on the blog with direct link to my various social network profiles. Just to make it look pretty!
So far I am active on 3 social networks:
- last.fm: I actually created my account in order to improve QtMPC, however it is now also coupled to my amarok and I upload the scrobble log from my ipod (with rockbox).
- linkedin: I created this to join the OpenStreetMap group.
- facebook: Now since a few days facebook.
Now I think that is (for now) enough to keep track of but it makes me wonder why there aren’t any good desktop apps to manage some of this. Like the facebook notification thingy at the bottom right. Why isn’t there a cool Qt app to just make this sit in the system tray? A well maybe a cool project for the upcoming semester
Bash.org RSS feed

I really like bash.org. However there is no RSS feed available for the latest quotes. This makes me sad. However after a 15 minute php session (which was more than enough php for me) it is working.
Checkout my bash.org rss feed. It updates every 15 minutes. Enjoy

Connection speed
by rullzer on Nov.09, 2007, under Annoying things, Daily news, Linux
When I’m in Amsterdam I’m hooked up to the internet trough Surfnet. A network that connects all the universities but also takes care of students. However the network is owned by surfnet they do not maintain it here. That is done by some oter company. So now you know a little bit how it is organized around here.
So 2 days ago something was wrong with the network. Don’t ask me what but it just was. All of the sudden no 10 mbit line. No it seemed like I was back at my old 56k6 modem. Damn. Pages not loading instantly. Man that is a pain in the ass. I had totally forgotten what it is like. That grabbing the source code for a random package can actually take more tan 1 minute or so :S
Well it is fixed now and I hope it won’t happen again.

God as programmer

A few days ago I came across this. It shows god in his shell creating the world. I showed it to some friends and they really liked it so I figured I’d share it with you all. Maybe you already know it, Maybe you don’t.

Back

So after 3 weeks of sun I returned Saturday from Italy/France. It really was a nice hollyday. Saw some nice cities (Milan, Verona, Venice, Monaco). And of course relaxed. One of these days I’ll post a larger story since this is the first time I get on-line in 3.5 weeks… that must be the longest time ever since I first got on-line… So why did it take so long? Well when I’m on holiday I can live without my Internet. Now on this hollyday we only saw 1 internet cafe that was over crowded so I also decided not to post on my blog. Then when we arrived at my girlfriends parents Saturday there was no internet. The reason? Lighting stroke 3 houses from theres into the ground and trough the internet/television cable the modem/router got fried. But with that also a lot of cable connectors. And the network card in the computer. So after 2 days of rewiring everything. It was finally time to get back. I’ll return to you when I have read all the 2800 emails…. :S
