Core 2 Duo
by rullzer on Feb.14, 2007, under Gentoo
So my parents now have a Core 2 Duo system downstairs for about 3 months. So i decided it was time to run gentoo on it. For the few times I use the PC downstairs i like it to run Gentoo. However since the motherboard has a JMicron chipset I could not run the Gentoo Live cd. So I had to use the “small linux”-livecd. This worked out really nice. So atm running an emerge -e system and man it is going fast.
Anyway that is the 3rd system here running gentoo.

I got a Core2Duo box last month – I’m still amazed at how fast it is.
I managed to use the Gentoo LiveCD to install on a motherboard (Asus P5B-E) with a JMicron controller though… I simply booted the LiveCD with the ‘all-generic-ide’ option and it worked fine. Although, I am not using the JMicron controller for anything but CDROM (discs are on the Intel ICH).
Strangely, this was also my 3rd Gentoo machine!

I tried that to but it would not boot. I have a MSI NEO-F motherboard. But it is a good suggestion wich people I think prefer to try.
I totally forgot my sisters machine. So it is the 4th PC. However it is the 3rd workstation
