Usbport overflow?

After a long evening of work i found myself thinking of a new technology i read about somewhere online. It were new batteries that you could charge on an USB-port. And i came to the conclusion that my acces to the USB ports is better than to an outlet. Since my laptop has 4 USB ports and well i do not have 4 outlets in my personal space most of the time.
But when i came to think more of this i noticed that the number of USB-ports in my house is catching up quickly on the number of outlets. For example the desktop downstairs (used by the family, it runs winXP (don’t hate me!!)) alone has 10 ports (damn!!!) 4 on the front end and 6 on the back. My sever (wondering why?) has 8 usb-ports (standart on the mobo). And as said my laptop has 4. So that brings the total on 22… We have more outlets but the usb ports are catching up. Even more when my sisters(s) gets a pc. This is a good thing i think. Since the power is already at hand you could as well charge a battery on it
Altough i do think we have to many USB ports these days. I mean it is OK to have one for you mouse and or keyboard. You could hook up your printer with it. And then 1 for data transfers from your ipod, usbstick, digicam etc. So 4 should be more than enough. Maybe even 2 on a laptop.
